Privacy Policy
Bitalyze (“Bitalyze,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), operated by Justin Espinosa, respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Bitalyze app (the “App”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We comply with the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) and apply equivalent protections for users outside the Philippines.
By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1 Information We Collect
a. Information you provide
- Profile & body data: the name (or nickname), date of birth / age, sex, height, weight, activity level, and goals you enter during onboarding, plus an optional profile photo you add.
- Nutrition & health activity: the foods you log, calorie and macro entries, scanned food photos, barcodes, nutrition-label images, recipes, weight or progress data, and (with your permission) activity/exercise data from Apple Health or Health Connect.
- Coach messages: the questions and messages you send to the in-app Bitalyze Coach.
- Communications: messages or feedback you send us, including support requests.
b. Account & sign-in (optional)
The App works without an account. If you choose to back up and sync your data across devices, you can sign in with Apple, Google, or an email magic link. We then receive a basic account identifier and, depending on the method, your email address, to create and secure your account.
c. Information collected automatically
- Device & technical data: device model, operating system and version, app version, language, time zone, and basic settings.
- Diagnostics & usage: crash reports, performance data, and aggregated usage events that help us fix bugs and improve features.
d. Purchase & subscription data
When you subscribe to Bitalyze PRO, your purchase is processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We never receive or store your full payment-card details. We do receive your subscription status (active, trial, expired) through our subscription provider, RevenueCat, so we can unlock PRO features for your account/device.
2 Camera, Photos & Health Data
With your permission, the App uses your camera to scan food, barcodes, and nutrition labels, and your photo library to let you pick a profile picture or import a photo to scan. With your separate permission, it may read activity and workout data from Apple Health (HealthKit) or Android Health Connect to estimate your daily energy balance. We only read the data needed for these features and never write to your health records without your action. You can deny or revoke any of these permissions anytime in your device settings.
3 How We Use Your Information
- Provide core features — calorie/macro tracking, food & barcode scanning, your member card, insights, and personalized targets based on your profile.
- Process scanned images and meal descriptions to identify foods and estimate nutrition.
- Power the Bitalyze Coach so it can answer questions about your day’s nutrition.
- Back up and sync your data across your devices (only if you sign in).
- Maintain your subscription and unlock PRO features.
- Diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve the App.
- Respond to your support requests and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your health or nutrition data for third-party advertising.
4 How Your Information Is Shared
We use trusted service providers to run the App. They process data only on our behalf and for the purposes below:
- Google — (a) Gemini AI processes your scanned food photos, barcodes, label images, and meal descriptions to identify foods and estimate nutrition; (b) Firebase Analytics receives aggregated usage events; (c) Google Play processes subscriptions; and (d) Google Sign-In, if you use it.
- Anthropic — the Bitalyze Coach is powered by Anthropic’s Claude. When you chat with the Coach, your message and a short summary of your current nutrition context are sent to Anthropic to generate a reply.
- Supabase — our cloud backend. If you sign in, your profile, logs, and photos are stored and synced via Supabase, and aggregated analytics events are recorded.
- RevenueCat — verifies and syncs your PRO subscription entitlement.
- Sentry — receives crash and error diagnostics to help us fix bugs.
- Apple — the App Store processes subscriptions; Apple Sign-In, if you use it.
- Legal & safety — when required by law, or to protect our rights, our users, or the public.
These providers may process data outside the Philippines. We require them to protect your information consistent with this Policy. We do not share your personal data with anyone for their own marketing.
5 Community Food Database
To make food recognition better for everyone, food entries you confirm or correct may be contributed to a shared community food database in de-identified form — only the food name and its nutrition values, never your name, photos, or personal profile.
6 Data Storage, Security & Retention
By default your profile and logs are stored on your device. If you sign in, they are also stored and synced through our secure cloud (Supabase) so you can restore them on a new device. Scanned photos uploaded to the cloud are automatically deleted after 30 days. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
We keep your information for as long as you use the App or as needed for the purposes above. You can delete your data at any time (see Section 7); deleting the App also removes data stored locally on your device.
7 Your Rights & Choices
Subject to applicable law, including the Data Privacy Act of 2012, you have the right to:
- Access and review the personal data we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate data (you can edit your profile in-app anytime);
- Delete your data;
- Withdraw consent or object to certain processing;
- Lodge a complaint with the National Privacy Commission (Philippines) or your local data-protection authority.
To exercise these rights, contact us at bitalyze.support@gmail.com.
8 Children’s Privacy
Bitalyze is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it. Users under 18 should use the App only with a parent or guardian’s consent.
9 Health Information Disclaimer
Bitalyze is not a medical service
The nutrition and calorie information in the App is provided for general informational and educational purposes only and consists of estimates. It is not medical, nutritional, or professional advice. See the full disclaimer in our Terms of Use.
10 International Users
The App is operated from the Philippines. If you use it elsewhere, you consent to processing your information in the Philippines and other countries where our providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your own.
11 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide an in-app notice. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
